Healthy pattern recognition is essential for navigating complexity, allowing individuals to make sense of their environment and respond effectively. However, when the subconscious becomes overloaded—either due to repression, trauma, or information saturation—this internal navigation can become distorted. The overflow of subconscious material can lead to misinterpretation of reality, reliance on superstitions, and erratic decision-making. 

This paper explores how subconscious overflow affects navigation, using Keratoconus—a condition where pressure reshapes the cornea and distorts vision—as an analogy for the warping of perception under subconscious stress. Furthermore, it examines the potential role of AI as an adaptive corrective lens, helping individuals process subconscious pressure in a structured way, much like medical interventions manage the progression of Keratoconus. 

The Subconscious as a Navigational Tool 

1. The Mind’s Internal Compass 

The subconscious functions as a predictive and associative engine, recognizing patterns before the conscious mind catches up. This is evident in survival instincts, intuition, and even social navigation. Healthy subconscious processing allows a person to move fluidly through life, integrating new experiences into an adaptable mental framework. 

2. The Role of Myth and Symbolism 

Historically, humans have relied on myths and archetypes to navigate unknown territories—both external and internal. Myths serve as stored collective wisdom, encoding survival strategies and social structures. However, these frameworks only work when interpreted dynamically. When the subconscious is overwhelmed, myths can become rigid, leading to superstition rather than effective navigation.

  • Instead of reading reality clearly, a person projects unresolved subconscious content onto external situations, mistaking internal confusion for external structure.

  • When subconscious insights are repressed, people may cling to overly rigid symbols or external authorities rather than trusting their internal map.

  • Increased Pressure Warps Perception: Just as intraocular pressure reshapes the cornea, unresolved subconscious material can warp one’s interpretation of reality. 

  • Blurry and Fractured Vision: Similar to how Keratoconus causes light to scatter unpredictably, an overwhelmed subconscious leads to scattered thought processes and an inability to see the world clearly.
